CONCORD, CA (June 11, 2021) — Police in Concord shared the sad news that Ben, a retired police dog, badge #392.5 has died.

A statement on  social media reads: Ben devotedly served our community between July 2009 and November 2015. If you ever saw a K9 demonstration during that time, K9 Ben was probably the star. He loved showing off his skills and surrounding himself with fans.

During his career, K9 Ben assisted the patrol and investigations divisions with hundreds of deployments resulting in the safe apprehension of suspects, recovery of illegal narcotics and evidence.

K9 Ben retired In 2015 and lived to be just over 15 years old. He adapted very well to his home life and was spoiled over the past 6 years.

Ben passed away peacefully with his handler (Sgt. Ollie Sansen and his wife) by this side at Sage Animal Emergency hospital.

Thank you again for your service Ben. You will be truly missed.
