CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (June 5, 2022) — With a variety of county and state offices on the ballot on Tuesday, June 7, those who haven’t yet voted might want to check out Voter’s Edge California. At the website, users can explore candidates’ priorities, endorsements and top donors in English and Spanish.
Meanwhile, if you need to drop off your ballot, there are 37 ballot box locations in the county – including at Concord City Hall.
Concord vice mayor arrested for DUI: City Council member Laura Hoffmeister was arrested in Clayton on May 24 for driving under the influence of alcohol. In the wake of the arrest, she is on paid leave from the city of Clayton – where she is assistant to the city manager. “I sincerely apologize to the residents of Concord and Clayton, my colleagues, my family and friends,” she said in a statement.
A matter of pride: The cities of Concord and Clayton and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District all raised the Rainbow Flag in honor of LGBTQ+ Pride Month. Clayton Pride is taking the celebration a step further – with the city’s first Pride Parade set for 10 a.m. June 25 downtown.

Bev Britton graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of North Dakota and moved to the Bay Area with her soon-to-be husband Jim in 1986. She was features editor at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek before becoming managing editor of the Contra Costa Sun in Lafayette in 1995. She retired from newsrooms in 2001, but an ad for the Clayton Pioneer drew her back in. The family moved to Lake Wildwood in the Gold Country a few years ago - but working at the Pioneer keeps her in touch with her old neighborhoods in Concord and Clayton.
