So This Happened... Week of April 19 to 25CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Two upcoming online forums will focus on race issues: April 27’s “COVID and Communities of Color” and April 28’s “The Rise in Violence Against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.”

Congressmember Mark DeSaulnier will host the COVID session via Zoom/Facebook at 6 p.m. Tuesday. He will also lead a tax assistance webinar at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 28.

Meanwhile, Clayton Speaks is sponsoring the anti-Asian hate forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Clayton resident Jonathan Lee, a professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University, will moderate the discussion.

Check out the library: Contra Costa County libraries will open this Monday, April 26, with temporary service options. To celebrate the reopening, state librarian Greg Lucas and county librarian Alison McKee will be at the Concord Library at 11 a.m. April 26 to answer questions.

Bev Britton graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of North Dakota and moved to the Bay Area with her soon-to-be husband Jim in 1986. She was features editor at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek before becoming managing editor of the Contra Costa Sun in Lafayette in 1995. She retired from newsrooms in 2001, but an ad for the Clayton Pioneer drew her back in. The family moved to Lake Wildwood in the Gold Country a few years ago - but working at the Pioneer keeps her in touch with her old neighborhoods in Concord and Clayton.
