Volunteers plant 50 trees at Concord’s Newhall park for Earth Day

CONCORD, CA — The Rotary Club of Concord has partnered with the City of Concord to plant 50 trees at Newhall Park. The planting happened on Saturday, April 24, to celebrate Earth Day Weekend.

The event also commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the City being named a Tree City USA.

A plaque fixed to a nearby boulder will honor the late Major General Daniel C. Helix, a former Concord Rotary Club President. Helix served as three-time Mayor of Concord and BART Director.

Ygnacio Valley High School Rotary Interact Club members and Diablo Valley College Rotaract Club assisted.  Concord Rotary sponsors both groups. Members of Business Networking International, BNI, also helped.

The Marathon Martinez Refinery supplied breakfast and lunch for the workers.

The Concord Brickyard donated a large boulder for the commemorative plaque. And The Montecito Senior Community provided water for all.
