Candidate: Anamarie Farias

What are your strengths or qualities that you bring to the position you’re seeking?

The strengths and qualities that I can bring to the California State Assembly are part of the many reasons for why I’m running for the California State Assembly seat, an extension and a continuation of my lifetime commitment to public service and serving my community that started when I was 14 years old.

My commitment to our community goes beyond my professional career. I served on the Martinez City Council, as a Planning Commissioner, and on the Parks & Recreation and Marina Commission. My dedication also led to my role as a Gubernatorial Appointee of Jerry G. Brown Jr. and reappointed by Gavin Newsom, and my current position as a Board Director on the California Housing Finance Agency.

I am actively involved in countywide youth programs, advocating for education, and supporting at-risk youth through my involvement with the Juvenile Hall Auxiliary (JHA) of Contra Costa County. I also contribute to environmental improvement through my participation in the Carquinez Regional Environmental Education Center (CREEC) Youth Program. I am also an active parent at both my childrens’ schools.

I am the sole candidate who has built a career in housing, economics and community development. I bring nearly 30 years of experience in administering various Federal, State, and local programs to solve complex community issues. I have been the only candidate to directly help individuals, families, and entire communities bring about social change and improve the quality of life.

Why should you be elected?

In each role that I have the honor of serving in, I continue to be the voice for the voiceless by standing up, speaking out, and fighting for social justice. My experience, commitment to public service, and participation in a broad range of policies makes me the ideal candidate to represent Assembly District 15.

As the ONLY candidate who is a lifelong Contra Costa resident, raised in this district, I will bring a unique perspective to the Assembly seat. A candidate with a strong understanding of our socially-, culturally-, and economically-diverse district is critical to the success of our future – I am that candidate. As a mother, raising my children in this district, I believe when crafting public policy, there is no greater commitment than protecting the children and families of my community.

As a mother, I’m fiercely committed to ensuring that the next generation of Contra Costa County residents have communities where they can live, work, and play. As Assemblymember, I will bring my experience in housing, economic, and community development to prioritize opportunities that create sustainable and livable communities for all. Through my role on the California Housing Finance Agency Board, this year alone, I’ve helped fund $5 billion to make homeownership and rentals more affordable throughout California. Safe and affordable housing is a basic human right. Closing the housing affordability gap requires a comprehensive strategy that includes expanding rental assistance, increasing permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness, developing new units for low- and moderate-income households, and creating homeownership programs for families who need down payment assistance.
