A toast for Clayton centenarian
Alair VanOutrive rode in the Clayton Fourth of July parade for her 100th birthday.

Alair VanOutriveCLAYTON, CA (Sept. 30, 2022) — Alair VanOutrive, a longtime Concord/Clayton resident, celebrated her 100th birthday at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite Valley on June 14 and by riding in Clayton’s July 4th parade. Family from Oregon and Florida joined her to mark the milestone.

She was born in Newport, R.I., and worked for Eastman Kodak and was also a telephone switchboard operator.

She married Harold, a Navy officer, in 1942. They lived in many places, including Hawaii and the Philippines. They settled in Concord in 1967 and later moved to Clayton. They celebrated 50 years together in 1992.

After Harold died in 1993, she lived in Magalia for 25 years. She lost her house in the Camp Fire in 2018 and moved back to Clayton. She loves family, friends, traveling and reading.
