So This Happened... Week of June 14 to 20

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (June 20, 2021) — As the city of Clayton welcomes back the Concerts in the Grove series with a Santana tribute band on July 17, the Clayton Business & Community Association announced that it has canceled its next three major events.

Because the CBCA relies on volunteers and months of planning, the group has decided not to host the BBQ Cook Off, Art & Wine Festival and Oktoberfest this year.

“It finally feels like life is starting to return to pre-pandemic normal. And that means summer fun,” he wrote in his Pioneer column.

Questions include whether homeless encampments should be allowed in public parks and whether the city should provide garbage service for homeless encampments. Read the full story.

Sports gaining steam: Thirty seniors from four local high schools have signed Letters of Intent to play at colleges across the country in 14 different sports. Meanwhile, Pioneer sports writer Jay Bedecarré examines the state of the high school sports scene.
