Black Diamond Crucible includes skydiving and hike to Clayton

CLAYTON, CA — The Black Diamond Crucible combines parachute operations and physical endurance to provide support to the families of fallen service members and wounded veterans.

In the spirit of the Marine Corps’ reconnaissance tradition, the May 28 event begins with a freefall parachute jump at 8 a.m. at Bay Area Skydiving in Byron, followed by a 15+ mile hike from Brentwood to Clayton. Participants will then enjoy a well-deserved reception at the Oakhurst Country Club in Clayton.

Proceeds support programs organized by the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation (MRF), which is dedicated to the Marine reconnaissance community.

The parachute jump is an optional part of the event and is reserved for licensed skydivers or participants interested in a tandem skydive with a certified instructor. The 5-, 10- and 15-mile hike options provide an opportunity for everyone to experience the event.

Concord resident Mike Hudson, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel, is organizing the Crucible. He served for 25 years as an infantry officer and reconnaissance Marine.

Joining him are fellow Marines Eddie Wright and Steve Mason. Wright is a highly decorated combat Marine and wounded veteran who thrives on pushing himself to the limit. Mason is a combat Marine and skilled skydiver.
