CONCORD, CA—Candidates for Concord City Council’s District 2 participated in an online forum last week. The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce hosted the discussion live online Sept.30. Candidates vying for the District 2 seat include incumbent Carlyn Obringer, Hope Johnson, Harmesh Kumar, Tristan Piper and Paul Wood.

The Chamber’s Melissa Rea gave each candidate a chance to introduce themselves and make the case for why you should get their vote. Topics included the Measure V sales tax issue that is on the November ballot in Concord, as well as COVID-19 recovery efforts for local businesses.

Candidates also answered questions about police funding, homelessness, cannabis sales and the city budget. Rea asked each candidate their plans for what to do with the Concord Naval Weapons Station.

The discussion revealed strong differences in the candidate’s views and approaches to how they will work on the city’s issues if elected. You can view the recorded forum session online on Facebook by clicking here.
