CLAYTON, CA (Dec. 5, 2021) — Residents can be good Samaritans by providing life-saving medical care for homeless and abandoned cats through the seventh annual Holiday Giving Tree fundraiser sponsored by Community Concern for Cats (CC4C), a local 35-year-old-cat rescue organization.

All funds raised will support CC4C’s cat hospital in Clayton, which performs spay/neuter surgery to help prevent cat overpopulation. It also gives kittens a healthy start to life and offers routine medical services and surgeries.

The giving tree is decorating the window of Rescued Treasures Thrift Shop at 1270 Newell Ave., Walnut Creek. Until Dec. 31, shoppers can purchase an ornament, add their name or a pet’s name and have it hung on the tree.

Donations can also be made at communityconcernforcats.org or by sending a check to P.O. Box 3795, Walnut Creek CA 94598.

Finding homes

Through October, CC4C has treated 2,360 in its hospital and found homes for 775 cats and kittens. The hospital recently returned to staying open four days a week. The facility performs 20-25 spay/neuter surgeries a day plus numerous exams on ill cats.

“We need more registered veterinary technicians in order to stay open that many days, so we are looking for RVTs whom we can schedule to fill in,” noted CC4C president Gemma Osendorf Boyd. “It will save so many precious lives and prevent a lot of suffering to continue to be open four days per week.”

Community Concern for Cats provides an adoption program for rescued cats.

CC4C has an adoption site 1-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays at 1250 Newell Ave., Walnut Creek. They are at Pet Food Express in Martinez 2-4 p.m. on some Saturdays. More information about cats up for adoption is available on the website. The site also has helpful information about lost pets, what to do when you find kittens, low-cost spay and neutering options and more.
