Work gets underway for truck lane on Kirker Pass

NOTE: work was scheduled to begin May 13

Contra Costa County Public Works has begun construction on the Kirker Pass Road northbound truck climbing lane project.

Pavement widening on the east side of the roadway will provide a 12-foot truck lane and an 8-foot paved shoulder. The project will improve safety and reduce congestion from the Concord Pavilion to the northern Hess Road intersection.

Widening will require construction of six retaining walls adjacent to the road. The county will also pave the north and southbound lanes between the city of Concord/county limits to about 4,200 feet north of North Hess Road.
Completion is expected in the spring of 2020, with construction scheduled to minimize impacts to commute traffic.

Funding sources include Measure J, the state Transportation Improvement Program, a state match, a local Streets and Road Program and gas tax revenues.
