Water main break in Clayton floods streets and causes water service loss to town

Water main break in Clayton leaves many temporarily without water

CLAYTON, CA (Feb. 8, 2024) — Residents across Clayton experienced a loss of water service today after a water main break. The accident also sent water streaming down Center St. This created a hazard for cars traveling between Clayton Road and Marsh Creek Road.

The break occurred due to work unrelated to City operations. It caused the majority of the city to temporarily lose water to properties, according to the City of Clayton.

Contra Costa Water District is working as fast as possible to fix the issue. There is no further information currently, but the repairs could take 2 to 3 hours.

UPDATE 5:15PM, Feb. 8, 2024: CCWD was able to reinstate water service to the majority of the community after 5 PM today. There were still a few residents without water but work continues to restore the remaining homes water service.
