WALNUT CREEK, CA (Aug. 15, 2023) — Studio Dawnatella was born of the love of crafts and artisanship, along with the desire to preserve these arts and hand them down to the next generations.

“My mother, grandmother and aunt passed down to me the love of sewing and crochet and the sense of joy and pride that comes from saying, ‘I made it myself,’ ” says owner Dawn King.

“I grew up with a sewing machine in my bedroom and stayed up late making clothes for my Barbie. I learned knitting, crochet, embroidery and even sewed my own wedding dress,” she adds. “Then I went on to explore metalwork and lapidary and have been a self-taught jewelry artist for the last seven years.”

When her mother died and left King her sewing and embroidery machines and fabric collection, she knew she had to spread that love around. Studio Dawnatella offers sewing classes for all ages, jewelry-making classes, events for moms’ night out and a gift shop filled with local, handmade treasures.

“Our well-equipped workspaces for sewing, metalwork and lapidary offer local craftspeople a facility to use and a store to sell their creations in,” King notes. “Take a class and stay awhile … practice your new skills in a supportive, social environment.”

Studio Dawnatella is at 546 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek. For more information, go to studiodawnatella.com.
