So This Happened...Weekly news summary for Nov. 16-22CONTRA COSTA COUNTY—As Contra Costa County moves into the Purple Tier and the governor issues a limited stay at home order, county officials are launching new programs for small businesses and renters.

Avoiding layoffs: The county’s Workforce Development Board is accepting applications for layoff aversion grants for micro-businesses. “These grants are intended to support local businesses’ overall efforts to retain their employees and keep their doors open,” said executive director Donna Van Wert. Help for renters: The county Board of Supervisors allocated an additional $4,292,960 for emergency rental assistance and tenant/landlord counseling and related legal services. “Providing direct rental payments to landlords on behalf of tenants is critical, and staff will work with community organizations to reach out to those in need, particularly low-income households and neighborhoods severely impacted by economic and housing instability at this difficult time,” said board chair Candace Andersen.
