CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Sept. 22, 2024) — Gearing up for the Oktoberfest celebration the first weekend of October, the Clayton Business & Community Association (CBCA) is marking its 40th year of service to the small town. “It’s always been geared toward bringing together the city government, the businesses and members of the community,” says former president Gloria Utley. Helping find a cure: Concord resident Arnetta Jones lost two daughters to lupus, but her personal tragedy hasn’t stopped her from continuing her efforts on behalf of the Lupus Foundation of America. “It’s when I go to some lupus events and I see people who have really been debilitated by this disease, and yet, they have made their way back,” Jones reflects. “I just wanted to be there to encourage them, and say, ‘Good job,’ because that could not have been easy, I know it.” Read the complete story.
In a class of his own: Rocker Greg Kihn, who called Clayton home from 2000 to 2019, enjoyed success with a unique string of hits. “Greg helped write the book on revolutionary West Coast rock and roll,” Skyler Turtle wrote after Kihn died last month of complications from Alzheimer’s. Bev Britton graduated with a degree in journalism from the University of North Dakota and moved to the Bay Area with her soon-to-be husband Jim in 1986. She was features editor at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek before becoming managing editor of the Contra Costa Sun in Lafayette in 1995. She retired from newsrooms in 2001, but an ad for the Clayton Pioneer drew her back in. The family moved to Lake Wildwood in the Gold Country a few years ago - but working at the Pioneer keeps her in touch with her old neighborhoods in Concord and Clayton.
