So This Happened…Week of March 11 through 17, 2024
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Mar. 17, 2024) — Bob Hoyer’s tenure as Clayton’s first mayor was characterized by visionary leadership and meticulous planning, writes Pioneer editor Tamara Steiner in a tribute to Hoyer, who died March 11 at age 102.
“Hoyer’s advocacy for responsible development and environmental stewardship left a lasting impact on Clayton. His efforts to preserve open space and create a city-wide trail system earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and constituents,” she added. (Read Bob Hoyer’s Obituary)
In contrast, the latest edition of the paper also lamented the current state of governance in Clayton – calling for an independent review after high staff turnover in recent years.
Challenging rent ordinance: Concord resident Jo Sciarroni has launched a petition campaign to put the city’s new Residential Tenant Protection Program on the November ballot.
“I think the intention was a good one – to protect tenants’ rights, but I don’t think they gave enough consideration to the others it would be affecting,” the property manager said.
Under state law, Concord has suspended implementation of the ordinance.
Meanwhile, in a letter to the editor, a representative of the Concord Communities Alliance dispute statements from the California Apartment Association regarding the city’s rules for landlords.
