WALNUT CREEK, CA (Feb. 2, 2024) — The Behring Pavilion and UCSF John Muir Health Jean and Ken Hofmann Cancer Center held its ribbon cutting on Friday. Jane Willemsen, Chief Operating Officer for John Muir Health reflected on the journey leading to this day.

“It’s hard to believe that it was only 28 months ago that we gathered on this site for the Pavilion and Cancer Center’s groundbreaking,” she said. Despite challenges, including a pandemic and supply chain issues, the project was completed on time and under budget, a testament to the dedication of all involved.

Willemsen highlighted the significance of the center, stating, “This center was built to inspire hope and healing, and to give our providers and staff a facility that is reflective of their exceptional care and compassion.” She emphasized the importance of the partnership between John Muir Health and UCSF Health in providing world-class cancer care to the community.

Speaking to the comprehensive services offered at Behring Pavilion, Willemsen noted, “In this building, patients will have access to a wide range of comprehensive services all in one place. It will be more convenient and efficient for patients, and it allows our clinicians to easily interact with one another face-to-face and coordinate care.”

Willemsen also expressed gratitude to the generous donors who made the project possible, including the Behring and Hofmann families. “We would not be opening this new Pavilion and Cancer Center without the incredible commitment of individuals and families,” she stated.

In closing, Willemsen highlighted the importance of having state-of-the-art medical facilities close to home, stating, “Ensuring that we have clinical expertise and state-of-the-art medical facilities right here, close to home, is the backbone of a strong community.”

The center will begin offering services in mid-February, including Radiation Oncology, Multidisciplinary Cancer Programs, Breast Surgical Services, and more. Medical Oncology and additional services will follow in mid-March, including Outpatient Infusion Services, Lab Services, and Clinical Cancer Research.

The opening of Behring Pavilion represents a significant step forward in the fight against cancer, offering hope, support, and world-class care to patients and families in the Walnut Creek area and beyond.

To introduce the facility to the community, a Community Open House is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, from 10 am to 1 pm. The event will be held at 177 La Casa Via in Walnut Creek. Please RSVP here.
