Kirker Pass Road closed due to fire; 50% contained

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (June 24, 2022) — A grass fire broke out near Kirker Pass Road and Black Diamond Trail, northeast of Clayton Friday afternoon.

The fire, located between Pittsburg and Concord, had burned approximately 105 acres, as of 3 p.m. Police and fire crews closed Kirker Pass Road in both directions and warned drivers to avoid the area.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said they expect an “extensive mop up” to take place. They hope to get the road opened around 4pm.

No structures were threatened by the blaze, which investigators have determined was caused by a malfunctioning vehicle.
