CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Oct. 6, 2023) — The U.S. Dept. of Labor released the latest job report Friday. It shows the national unemployment rate remains relatively low at 3.8%.

The number of unemployed persons remained essentially unchanged at 6.4 million. Average hourly earnings rose 0.2%; up 4.2% year-on-year. But looking closer to home, how do things look for Contra Costa County?

Stacker compiled a list of counties with the highest unemployment rates in California using Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Counties are ranked by their preliminary unemployment rate in August 2023, with initial ties broken by the number of unemployed people within that county, though some ties may remain.
