CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Oct. 8, 2023) — Mt. Diablo set up its title deciding Diablo Athletic League Valley Division showdown this Friday the 13th in Martinez at Alhambra (5-1) with a 49-22 win over winless Ygnacio Valley.

And De La Salle will face its toughest local opponent Friday night in Danville against undefeated San Ramon Valley, which has been very impressive this season. The Spartans had last week off to prepare for the highly anticipated matchup with undefeated, high scoring San Ramon Valley, which took care of slumping Clayton Valley Charter 35-7 last Friday.

The game will most likely determine this fall’s No. 1 ranked North Coast Section Open/Division I team heading into the playoffs with only 6-0 Pittsburg also in that conversation. Also at stake is the Spartans unbeaten streak against NCS opponents that dates back to 1991’s Section title game loss to Pittsburg. Since then the Concord powerhouse has won 264 times and tied once (to Clayton Valley in 2004). They had a closed 28-27 win over the Wolves in 2016, a season when De La Salle had four one-score games (three wins and a loss) in a row.

Besides 5-1 Mt. Diablo, all the other local schools playing last Friday came up on the short end on the scoresheet.

Northgate still is looking for its first win of the year after losing 54-13 to Acalanes.

Campolindo handed College Park its four successive loss 49-21 in a DAL Foothill game.

Concord High lost its fifth game of the season and for the first time in those five losses the Minutemen weren’t shutout, losing 48-12 to unbeaten Las Lomas.

Concord visits Ygnacio Valley Friday with the two Concord schools each looking for a victory as they have only two wins among their 14 games this fall.
