Volunteers plant 50 trees at Concord’s Newhall park for Earth Day

Embrace Earth Day with these Concord clean up and park maintenance events

CONCORD, CA (Apr. 7, 2024) — Volunteers in Concord will have many opportunities to celebrate Earth Day on April 20. From Newhall Park to the streets around Todos Santos Plaza, eco-conscious individuals can make a positive difference in their community.

Get your hands dirty removing debris from creeks or spreading mulch around local parks. Mulch promotes soil health and moisture retention.

Various volunteer projects foster community spirit and a commitment to environmental stewardship. From urban thoroughfares to green spaces, Concord’s Earth Day events promise a transformative experience for all who partake, uniting individuals in a collective endeavor to safeguard the planet for future generations. Events run from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

Newhall Park

Clean up and remove debris from creeks, going from Newhall Parkway to Second Lake Shoreline. City will provide all needed supplies. Meet at Newhall Parkway parking lot.

Ygnacio Valley Park

Spread mulch around the perimeter fence lines in several areas around the park. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, all other supplies are provided. Meet at the front of the tot lot.

Dave Brubeck Park

Spread mulch around the perimeter fence lines in several areas around the park. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, all other supplies are provided. Meet by the stage parking lot.

Markham Nature Park

Markham volunteer group will have projects for anyone wanting to volunteer in the international gardens. Volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves. Meet at parking lot.

Hillcrest Park

Clean up and remove debris from creeks, going from Grant Street to the spillway exiting Hillcrest Park. City will provide all supplies. Meet at disc golf first tee.

Monument Blvd.

Pick up litter along the new Monument Blvd pedestrian & bike pathway to Detroit Ave. City will provide all supplies. Meet behind skate park on trail.

San Miguel Rd.

Pick up litter along San Miguel Rd. from Cowell to Treat Blvd. City will provide all supplies. Meet at corner of Systron, Donner and San Miguel.

Downtown District

Pick up litter around Todos Santos Plaza, Willow Pass Rd., Mt. Diablo St., Grant St. to Port Chicago. City will provide all supplies. Meet at Todos Santos Plaza behind stage.

Lime Ridge

Weeding around newly planted wildflowers and native plants. Spread mulch around plants. Volunteers should bring their own gloves. Meet at the parks building.
