Concord’s turkey dinner giveaway feeds over 600 local families in need

CONCORD, CA (Nov. 23, 2021) — Concord city councilmembers organized the community’s second annual turkey drive last weekend.

Concord mayor Tim McGallian and vice mayor Dominic Aliano, along with many sponsors and volunteers, distributed more than 600 turkey dinners to local families in need, ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday. Each dinner included a turkey, string beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce and dinner rolls.

Sponsors included Contra Costa Building and Construction Trades Locals 302, 104, 159, 342, 152, 3 (Bricklayers), 324, 16, 483, and 549.

Many other groups helped with the event. Vice Mayor Aliano thanked the organizations that supported the event. Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery helped deliver the boxed meals.

Other partners included the Unity Council, Monument First 5, Central Regional Group First 5, Monument Impact, Community Youth Center, Boys & Girls Club of Contra Costa County, Concord PD and VFW Post 1525. Councilmembers Laura Hoffmeister and Carlyn Obringer also lent a hand, as well as volunteers from Visit Concord.
