CONCORD, CA (Aug. 17, 2021) — The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning beginning Tuesday, August 17 at 11 p.m. until Wednesday, August 18 at 3 p.m. due to gusty winds and low humidity in the area.

The City of Concord will close its open space areas with developed walking trails, including Lime Ridge Open Space and portions of Newhall Park effective Wednesday morning. Lime Ridge parking lots at Treat Boulevard and Montecito Drive will also be closed. The City plans to reopen the spaces on August 18 at 3 p.m., unless the NWS extends the Red Flag Warning.

City staff has consulted with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and determined that closing the open space is in the best interest of public safety and preservation of the natural environment.

PG&E has also warned of a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event for much of the Bay Area. At this time the power shutoffs may affect some cities in Contra Costa County.  Click here for PSPS updates.
