Concord Library closes temporarily for asbestos removal work
CONCORD, CA—The Concord Library’s second floor is getting a long overdue planned asbestos abatement, and the library will be closed Nov. 9-29.
The book drop will not be open and holds will not be available for pickup during the closure.
For safety, staff and patrons will not be permitted in the city-owned facility during improvements and repairs to the second level’s old and worn flooring. The city is shouldering the costs of this work.
“We are grateful for our successful, ongoing partnership with the city of Concord,” said interim county librarian Alison McKee. “They have made a number of improvements and upgrades to the building in recent years that make the library more enjoyable for patrons and staff.”
Library materials not picked up by the end of the day on Saturday, Nov. 7, will remain on the shelf and can be collected when the library reopens on Monday, Nov. 30. The hold period will be extended an extra week to Monday, Dec. 7.
Patrons may place holds and pick them up via Front Door service at any other Contra Costa County Library while this essential work is completed.
This project comes on the heels of the city recently finishing improvements to the exterior of the library. The city removed the courtyard wall, making the library and the landscaping more visible from the street.
