Concord, De La Salle get 1st wins, Mt. Diablo takes 1st season defeat
The Northgate High Broncos lost to 12 Bridges High Rhinos on Thursday.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Sept. 11, 2023) — Concord High and De La Salle each won their first games of the fall Friday night while Mt. Diablo fell to its first defeat when Oakland Tech scored a late touchdown to upset the Red Devils and overcome another sterling four-touchdown evening by running back Herschel Turner.

De La Salle was tied with Saint Francis 14-14 in Mountain View before having a strong fourth quarter to pull away from the Lancers 35-17. Two years ago on the same field Saint Francis ended the Spartans remarkable 30-year winning streak against Northern California teams.

Concord was outscored 90-0 in the first two weeks but the Minutemen defeated San Lorenzo 26-21 to get in the win column. Northgate and Ygnacio Valley were not so fortunate and each suffered a third straight loss.

After a bye week College Park went to Roseville and beat Oakmont 49-14 to remain unbeaten in the early season.

Clayton Valley Charter was blanked by Oak Ridge in El Dorado Hills 28-0. It was the first time the Ugly Eagles failed to score since a pair of shutouts in 2016.
