Clayton Valley Garden Club hosts ‘Welcome Back’ pizza party

CLAYTON, CA (July 29, 2021) — On July 14 the Clayton Valley Garden Club (CVGC) held a “Welcome Back Pizza Party” meeting with 50 members and guests in  attendance.  CVGC presented many awards and certificates of appreciation.

CVGC received a First Place Award in the State of California (California Garden Clubs, Inc.) and First Place in the Pacific Region (8 states) for their successful online Plant Sale during the pandemic shutdown while other organization fundraisers and plant sales were cancelled.

Diablo Foothills District Director, Mona Dunlop presents CVGC co-Presidents Gloria Utley and Linda Cruz with the First Place Awards at the District Meeting.  CVGC member Ruby Wagstaff received “Propagator of the Year Award.”

Scholarships awarded

Two scholarships were also provided by CVGC to 2 outstanding CVCHS graduate students.  Pennelope Vega Ortiz was present to receive her scholarship.  Alexa Oldham will be able to receive her scholarship at the August 11 general meeting.

Eight members received Longevity certificates for over 20 years of volunteering with the CVGC, including 2 Charter members; Jan Rubiales and Dorothy Bradt.

R&M Pool, Patio, Gifts & Gardens and the Atlas Tree Service received Business Commendations for their support of the CVGC.

Penny Pines certificates (a reforestation project) were presented to Ted Meriam, Paul Jordan, Jesse Cruz, and Ben & Alyce Shikano in appreciation for their support and creativity.  Russ Remoy received a Penny Pines certificate in memory of Patty Remoy for 4 forests donated by her neighbors and friends.  Patty was a long time CVGC member and volunteer.
