Clayton extends Chief McEachin’s contract, hires new city clerk

Jim Diaz, Clayton MayorCLAYTON, CA (Feb. 19, 2024) — I am pleased to announce that the Clayton Council Council approved a new three-year contract with Police Chief Richard McEachin on Jan. 16.

My council colleagues and I are extremely happy with the negotiations and are grateful for the excellent service our police chief and his staff provide to the Clayton community.

Also at this meeting, we discussed a potential Parking Permit Program near the Olivia on Marsh Creek project downtown. Thank you to those citizens who made their voices heard.

The Olivia’s proposed 81 units, with just 1.1 parking spaces per unit, could present parking issues for the surrounding area. The council gave direction to staff to come back with an agenda item to establish an Ad-Hoc Committee. The committee will discuss potential solutions or actions that we could take regarding the impact on parking in Stranahan, the downtown and surrounding areas.

As I mentioned in my last column, I am excited to participate in the planning for Clayton’s 60th anniversary of our 1964 inauguration. I encourage everyone to get involved. Please contact City Hall if you would like to volunteer your time or expertise.

New City Clerk

It is also my pleasure to announce that Stephanie Cabrera-Brown has joined the city team as our city clerk. Cabrera-Brown brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this important role. We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the dedication and passion she will bring to serving our city. Please give her a warm welcome as she takes on this vital position that keeps our local government running smoothly.

Meanwhile, please join me in wishing a happy 100th birthday to Clayton resident Chuck Kohler. As one of the few remaining World War II and Pearl Harbor survivors, we thank him for his military service and honor his sacrifices for our country.

Lastly, as your mayor, I will work hard to maintain Clayton’s “small town charm,” while running an open and transparent local government. I plan to keep you informed and involved in important decisions every step of the way.

Let’s make 2024 a year to remember in Clayton. I look forward to working with you.
