So This Happened…Week of July 1 through 7, 2024
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (July 7, 2024) — Yup, it was hot. A triple-digit scorcher. But everyone still managed to have fun in the sun this Fourth of July.
The Blue Devils came out in full force for Concord’s parade, but the horses stayed home this year due to the unrelenting heat. Parade participants marched on in Pleasant Hill and Clayton as well, with slightly smaller crowds decked out in red, white and blue to celebrate America’s independence.
Meanwhile, Walter Eichinger highlights other reasons to head downtown Concord this month, including the Tuesday and Thursday farmers markets and summer blockbusters at Brenden Theatres.
As the heat wave continued, officials heeded a Red Flag warning and closed several East Bay Regional Parks. For pet owners, Pioneer columnist Micki McCabe provided tips for keeping our furry friends safe.
And with fire danger lurking behind every wind gust, David Scholz caught up with the Kiwanis Club of Concord’s Firefighter of the Year. “The intimacy of this job and how you spend the time with people you work with and the people you serve have made for some of the most rewarding times of my life,” shares Capt. Josh Andrews.
