Contra Costa DA Files Nine Count Complaint Against Diablo Valley College Faculty Member

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Sept. 12, 2023) — A faculty member at Diablo Valley College is facing a nine-count felony complaint for human trafficking, pandering, pimping, and other charges related to the use of force while engaging in sexual acts.

Authorites currently hold 39-year-old Kyle Lee Whitmore of Crockett without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office arrested him  on September 7. Whitmore teaches Communication Studies at Diablo Valley College – where he also served as a track coach.

It is alleged that Jane Doe #1 and Jane Doe #2 were trafficked by Whitmore to commit crimes of prostitution. The DA also charged Whitmore with one count of pimping and four counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object.

Jane Doe #1 reported her situation to authorities at Diablo Valley College. An investigation by campus police and the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office ensued. Officers arrested Whitmore and took him into custody. Meanwhile, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case for a filing decision. The DA filed the complaint on September 11. Whitmore’s arraignment is scheduled for September 12 at 1:30 pm in Contra Costa Superior Court in Martinez.

Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton said that “There are tools at the local, state, and national level to help curb human trafficking and connect victims to trauma-informed services. For example, our office has a local human trafficking hotline, we have community-based service partners like Community Violence Solutions, and there’s a national toll-free help line that’s available 24/7.”
