Concord Cup XXVIII registrations open for May 20-21 tournament

The area’s largest annual youth soccer tournament, Concord Cup, returns for its 28th edition at a variety of Concord parks May 20-21. Boys and girls club and AYSO teams from under 10 through U19 are eligible to participate. Diablo Valley Wolves, Mt. Diablo Soccer and Concord AYSO co-sponsor the tournament. St. Bonaventure CYO track and field underway with spring season

St. Bonaventure CYO track and field online registration is still open for boys and girls in second through eighth grades. Practices are at Clayton Valley Charter High School for the balance of the season. Meets are held on Saturdays and the season runs into May, culminating with the Oakland Diocesan championship meet May 12-13. For more information visit stbonaventurecyo.com.

Wendler wins high point award for Terrapins at Spring Sectionals

The Terrapins sent 11 swimmers to the California/Nevada Sectional Championships in Novato earlier this month. The team racked up 20 best times as swimmers battled through tough weather conditions to take fourth place in the medium division. The Terrapins were led by junior Mason Wendler, who won high point award for the men’s division. He posted five best times in six events while winning two events (1000 and 200 freestyle), taking second in the 500 free and fourth in 50 and 100 free. Other top performers for the local club were Aden Li (six best times and top 10 in 100 and 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke), Diego Castaneda (two best times, top 10 in the 100 fly), Claudia Dumais and Brooke Koller (two best times), Nicholas Woolery (two best times, top 10 in the 1000 and 1650 free), Haylee Wong, Ryan Cesmat and Sophia Pedersoli.

Concord AYSO spring program starts Saturday

Concord AYSO Region 305 is participating in the new Area 2C & 2D Spring Alliance soccer league, which has taken the place of Select. The Alliance program is open to all kids in birth years 2009-2014 in the Concord AYSO geographic area regardless of where they played fall soccer. Red Devil Golf Classic set for June 23

The Red Devil Golf Committee announced it is holding its annual fund-raising tournament on Friday, June 23, at Diablo Creek Golf Course in Concord.  Registration starts at 11 a.m., followed by lunch, golf, dinner and raffle/silent auction. Proceeds help academic and athletic programs at Mt. Junior Optimist spring baseball season off due to field damage

Junior Optimist Baseball League announced that due to water damage from the heavy winter rains, JOBL’s recreational fields have been made unplayable for the spring season. The league said, “Our fields, which were in need of repair prior to the start of the season, have become too dangerous to allow for our young players to play baseball on this spring. The JOBL Board is taking this opportunity to revitalize the complex with improvements on the fields” at the complex in North Concord. Visit joblconcord.com for more information.

Ygnacio Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame dinner tickets on sale

MDSA spring league registration open for season beginning Mar. 25

Registration is open for Mt Diablo Soccer Association’s spring season which begins Mar. 25. The program is open to boys and girls ages 4-18. The 12U and older divisions are co-ed. For more details visit mdsoccer.org.

Clayton Valley Athletic Hall of Fame honors Class of 2023 on May 19

Clayton Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame will host is seventh induction ceremony May 19 at Centre Concord. The Hall of Fame committee announced this year’s honorees recently. They are the Clayton Business and Community Association, Jim Henderson (Class of 1960), Gene Montori (1964), Brian Strock (1977), Kip Yaughn (1988), Jason Nolting (1995), Sean Reilly (2008), Suzanne Boehner (1977), Dana Lawson (1997), Jennifer Coddington (1997), Laura Davis (2002), Coach/Athletic Director Dee Billeter, 1976 and 1977 girl’s gymnastics, 1988 baseball, 1985 football and 1996 girl’s track. Dana Hills Swim Team accepting signups

Dana Hills Swim Team summer registration is now open. The championship team offers a supportive and inclusive environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The Otters Spring Clinic this month is designed to help swimmers refine their technique and build their skills in preparation for the summer recreation season.
