Mount Diablo State Park marks 100th birthday with Oct. 16 party
CONCORD, CA (Oct. 8, 2021) — Mount Diablo State Park celebrates its 100th birthday this year. Area residents and thousands of visitors have enjoyed the parks trails and spectacular views for decades.
Help celebrate the park’s centennial at a special event on Saturday, October 16 at the foot of the mountain. Cal State East Bay’s Concord Campus will host the party. You can find Cal State East Bay at 4700 Ygnacio Valley Blvd. in Concord, CA. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Activity booths will showcase the park’s fascinating wildlife, history, and ways to safely enjoy this wonderful local resource.
Come meet live animals, including bats, snakes, birds of prey, and other local creatures who live in the park.
Meet the volunteers and horses of our Mounted Assistance Unit who roam the trails on horseback. Discover why you’ll find the oldest rock layers on top of the mountain. And see how astronomers view the heavens from the mountain’s heights.
California State Parks and their partners the Mount Diablo Interpretive Association, Save Mount Diablo and Cal State East Bay hope you will join them for this event. Celebrate Mount Diablo State Park’s birthday, its many stories, and the community’s connection to this amazing place.
Centennial film premiere
Mount Diablo State Park has healed and inspired visitors for 100 years. To help celebrate, Save Mount Diablo created a film about the mountain’s natural heritage and human history.
The film features naturalists Ken Lavin and Michael Marchiano. Other contributors include Save Mount Diablo Land Conservation Director Seth Adams and co-founder of Cafe Ohlone Vincent Medina. Mount Diablo State Park Supervising Ranger Cameron Morrison also appears.
SMD partnered with California State Parks and the Mount Diablo Interpretative Association on the film.
