Mt. Diablo Unified Schools welcome students back to classrooms
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (March 31, 2021) — After sitting empty for 377 days, Mt. Diablo Unified School District classrooms welcomed back preschool through high school students over the past several days on a limited basis as Contra Costa County continues to open up from the March 2020 COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
MDUSD has instituted a hybrid model with students on campus for afternoon sessions weekdays except Wednesday. Distance learning continues in the morning.
The District’s spring break is the week of April 5-9. June 2 is the final day of the 2020-21 term.
Last week, the District and its teacher’s union reached agreement targeting a return for full-time instruction on campus in the 2021-22 term beginning Aug. 12. Students will have the option of continuing distance learning that school year.

Jay Bedecarré is a long-time resident and writer in Concord and Clayton. He began his newspaper writing career while still a senior at Mt. Diablo High School and he has been part of The Pioneer since its inception in 2003. Jay also operates Bay Area Festivals, presenting events around the San Francisco Bay Area including Bay Area KidFest annually in Downtown Concord.
