CONCORD, CA — A new COVID-19 vaccine clinic that will provide as many as 15,000 doses weekly has opened at the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park in Concord. This site provides a convenient new option for Contra Costans looking to get vaccinated.

Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS), the City of Concord and Kaiser Permanente, have partnered to set up the drive-through clinic.

“We want to provide every eligible Contra Costa resident with the opportunity to get a vaccine. Our strong partnerships are making that possible,” said Diane Burgis, chair of the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors. “Getting a COVID-19 vaccine is a healthy choice that saves lives and reduces the spread of the virus. This will ultimately help our community to fully reopen.”

Increased capacity

KP and CCHS staff will offer appointments Tuesday through Saturday. Kaiser will contacting and scheduling its own members. KP receives its own supply of COVID-19 vaccine directly from the state. This means it will have the capacity to provide as many as 2,000 daily appointments at the clinic once the site is fully operational.

“Working with CCHS & the City of Concord to open this vaccination site helps us increase our capacity to deliver more vaccine doses,” said Chris Boyd, Senior VP and Area Manager, Diablo Service Area, Kaiser Permanente. “We look forward to this partnership. And, as we receive more vaccine, we can continue to get it in the arms of our members and our communities at our facilities and at sites like this.”

The clinic resides in the lot of the Six Flags Hurricane Harbor park in central Concord, between Interstate 680 and Highway 242 at 1950 Waterworld Parkway.

“The City of Concord is proud to host this mass vaccination site in a centrally located venue,” said Concord Mayor Tim McGallian. “I applaud the County and Kaiser Permanente for creating this convenient option. It will provide thousands of Contra Costa residents with this live-saving vaccine. I encourage everyone to sign up for their shot.”

Appointments required

Appointments will be required to get a vaccine, either through CCHS at cchealth.org/coronavirus or 1-833-VAX-COCO (1-833-829-2626), or through Kaiser Permanente (for Kaiser Permanente members) at kp.org/covidvaccine.

This important service to our community was made possible with support from Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Concord and the U.S. National Guard. They have provided staff to help administer vaccines at the site.

The actual number of doses provided at the clinic will depend on vaccine supply. Doses provided by CCHS at Hurricane Harbor will come from Contra Costa’s weekly allotment. That comes from the state, which supplies county-operated clinics and community healthcare providers.
