City of Concord Invests In Sustainable Safety
CONCORD, Calif. — The City of Concord and the Family Justice Center of Contra Costa County have partnered together to provide “Sustainable Safety.” The Concord City Council renewed their commitment to provide funding in the amount of $115,00 for the Family Justice Center in the continued fight against interpersonal violence.
The Family Justice Center is celebrating 10 years of service with centers in Richmond, Concord, and Antioch. In 2020 they were able to provide safety to over 4,000 clients, a 13% increase from 2019.
Families experiencing domestic abuse, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse and human trafficking were able to find legal advice, emotional support, and hope for their futures.
Oftentimes abuse is within the home of families. For example, in almost 90% of elder abuse and neglect incidents, the perpetrator is a family member or other trusted individual. Women (26%) and men (15%) find themselves experiencing partner violence before the age of 18. The numbers are staggering however with partners like the City of Concord the work of fighting interpersonal violence is able to move forward
Building safety through community
On Saturday, May 22 the Family Justice Center will be hosting a virtual music and art festival, Building Safety Through Community. With featured speakers from the community, TV personalities, and Maria Jose Montijo as the featured artist they are aiming to raise enough funds to offer the continued services for their families.
With a mission to build a better community for all they are diligent in offering programs such as Success Academy for children, Healing Conversations Crisis Counseling, Navigators who are assisting those through the legal process, along with 25 workshops offered in 2020 just to name a few.
For those of you wanting to make a difference as the City of Concord has done we encourage you to register for their annual fundraiser and to become one of their beloved sponsors.
