Concord helps veteran celebrate 92nd birthday this week

CONCORD, CA — Raymond Henderson celebrated his 92nd birthday on March 2, 2021. The Concord resident is a member of VFW Post 1525 (Concord). He was in the Merchant Marine during WWII then enlisted in the army and served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Raymond is also a former Commander of American Legion District 2 (San Francisco).

His family contacted Mark Steinberg (Commander of VFW Post 1525 and District 10 to see if a drive by celebration could be organized. On Tuesday, Fire and Police Department representatives from Concord drove by with lights flashing lights and sirens blaring. Representatives from local VFW and American Legion posts in Concord, Martinez, and San Ramon joined the convoy with Happy Birthday signs to add their well wishes.

Tim McGallian, Mayor of Concord and Colleen Awad from Supervisor Mitchoff’s office presented Raymond with citations and Mark Steinberg presented a certificate of appreciation on behalf of Post 1525 and Department of California District 10.
