CONCORD, CA—A wet winter storm will hit the Bay Area this week. Forecasters expect rain on eight out of the next 10 days, beginning on January 24.

If you need sandbags, please stop by our Public Works Corp Yard located at 1455 Gasoline Alley in Concord.

The do-it-yourself bags, sand and shovels are available 24/7, limit 25 bags.

The city aso encourages residents to prepare for potential flooding by following three basic steps:

  • Be aware of your risk: Know whether your home is in a flood zone; pay attention to weather forecasts; and listen to local authorities.
  • Be prepared: Maintaining emergency supply kits in your home, vehicle, and work can provide essential supplies during the initial days following a flood. Examples of emergency supply kits can be found at www.ready.gov.
  • Take action: Evacuate immediately if advised to do so. Homeowners’ insurance does not cover damage due to flooding, so you may want to consider purchasing flood insurance.

Also, get your flashlights ready in case the power goes out and, of course, slow down on the roads. If you encounter a flashing red signal light or a stop light with no power, please treat it as a stop sign.
