511 Contra Costa offering $150 to $300 rebates on E-Bike purchasesCONTRA COSTA COUNTY— 511 Contra Costa wants you to show and tell the world that e-bikes are the way to go. They are offering a limited number of rebates for people who purchase e-bikes in October. Each city and unincorporated area in the county has a number of rebates reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

There’s no hidden catch. They want you to show and tell the world that e-bikes are the way to go. Zoom up hills and show off how much fun you’re having. Go ahead and brag about how far you’ve ridden and how many places you can reach without your car.

The rebates will continue until the funding runs out. As of Friday, Oct. 9, 2020, Clayton still had 4 rebates left and Concord had 38. The program reserves 50% of funds for county residents with total household incomes less than or equal to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.

What is an E-Bike?

The “e” in e-bike stands for “electric assist.” An e-bike has fully operable pedals and an electric motor (750 watts or less) that provides the rider with a “pedal assist” option.  Battery powered E-bikes recharge by plugging into a standard power outlet. Several different types of e-bikes exist. You can also convert a regular bike by adding a motor to the front or back wheel. A professional must perform the bike conversion to qualify for the 511CC rebate.

You can find more information on E-Bikes and on the rebate program, as well as an updated list of how many rebates are left in your city at 511contracosta.org/biking/electric-bicycle-rebate
