Ten seasonal Con Fire control workers become firefighter recruits
CONCORD, CALIF., (October 30, 2021) – Contra Costa Fire Protection District’s seasonal fire control worker Crew 12 is proving a great path to firefighting careers. Ten Crew 12 members joined Con Fire’s Academy this month as firefighter recruits.
Con Fire’s firefighter academy training program, facilities and curriculum earned re-accreditation by the California State Fire Marshal in October. The district’s academy remains one of only 25 such accredited academies statewide. The Con Fire Academy originally earned accreditation in November 2018.
Accredited Local Academies (ALA) are training programs of individual fire agencies that provide training for in-house personnel. They actively provide state, municipal, county, or fire district fire protection services.
Accreditation recognizes the agency’s commitment and dedication to the highest levels of professional fire service training.
Con Fire convened its 56th academy on October 18, the fifth accredited academy since the District earned ALA status in 2018. The 19-week Academy 56 comprises 28 recruit firefighters, 11 of whom will train as firefighter/paramedics and the remainder firefighter EMTs.
“I am proud of our training division’s hard work and dedication. It has resulted in the continued improvements necessary to retain accreditation of our academy for another five years,” said Con Fire Chief, Lewis Broschard. “Continued accreditation of our academy ensures our firefighters receive the best training possible. Also, our residents will get the highest levels of professionalism and emergency services from their firefighters.”
