Woman’s Club donates to First Place for Youth

Clayton chief will speak in February

Clayton Valley Woman’s Club co-presidents Joan Bergum and Linda Garden chose First Place for Youth as the recipient of the presidents’ charity in 2019.

Members donated $705 in gift cards, which they gave to interim clinical program manager Khadeeja Mirza at the club’s December luncheon at Endeavor Hall in Clayton.

The future can be perilous and uncertain for the more than 25,000 young people across the United States who transition out of foster care into adulthood each year. That’s why First Place for Youth programs provide these vulnerable young people with the tools they need to reach their full potential in school, work and life.

The Clayton Valley Woman’s Club meets at 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of most months at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 5555 Clayton Road in Clayton.

On Feb. 11, the club will host Clayton Police Chief Elise Warren’s presentation, “General Law Enforcement.”

After completing a bachelor of science degree at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Warren started her career in law enforcement in 1990 with the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff. She spent 28 years there, promoting through the ranks and retiring as an assistant sheriff in 2018 to become Clayton’s chief.

In 2019, Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed her to the state 911 Advisory Board as a representative of the California Police Chief’s Association.
