Wolfe, Shuey lead for council

A heated race for two city council seats was too close to call at press time Wednesday morning.
With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Carl “CW” Wolfe, a former planning commissioner, and David “Shoe” Shuey, currently vice-mayor seeking a fourth term, were leading for the two open council seats with a significant number of mail and absentee ballots yet to be counted.
Wolfe was clearly out in front with 1,717 votes. Shuey was second with 1,683 and just 30 votes behind was Jeff Wan, a CPA, with 1,653 votes. Attorney Brian Buddell trailed with 1,076.
State mandated high density housing, restrictions on parolee housing and disposition of the downtown lot currently used for festivals dominated the contentious campaign. Wan and Buddell are opposed to all high density housing. Wolfe and Shuey want development in compliance with state laws.
