Utility box art project underway in downtown Concord
If you’ve been to downtown Concord this week, you may have noticed the colorful new utility box art, which is being installed throughout the week. The artwork celebrates Concord’s popular Music and Market series.
In March, Concord City Council approved a proposal for the project by the Concord Art Association. Funding comes from private donations and CAA’s reserves, with the city adding a portion from a fund designated for public art.
CAA, in collaboration with the city of Concord, selected 11 local artists to paint or vinyl wrap utility boxes around Todos Santos Plaza.
The artists include: Chris Ball, Janet Brown, Pat Calabro, Melissa Claros, Carissa Fei, Jennifer Granat, Denise Hillman, Renaye Johnson, Thea Jue, Samineh Perryman and Sharon Peterse.
A formal “unveiling” of the finished art is scheduled for Sept. 12, 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Todos Santos Plaza. Click here for more information on the celebration.
