Two CVCHS students honored for displaying courage

The Clayton City Council recently honored two CVCHS students for their strong showing in the Do the Right Thing character-building initiative. Kieran Moss and Sofia Pella were recognized for demonstrating great courage.

CVCHS principal Jeff Anderson nominated Kieran for the honor. Anderson learned that Kieran supported the Concord Police Dept. in apprehending the suspect of a hit and run accident. Alison Hill, a teacher at CVCHS said, “Kieran’s actions were courageous, and we are very proud of this positive impact on our community.” The CVCHS senior is interested in mechanical engineering and hopes to fly in the Navy after graduation. This month he turned in the binder for his Eagle Scout project.

Sofia Pella is a freshman at CVCHS. Sofia was nominated by the CVCHS school nurse and Sofia’s counselor, who were inspired by Sofia’s commitment to academic achievement especially given her diagnosis of leukemia. Sofia is excited about her future at CVCHS and hopes to engage in community service. She would like her nomination to inspire bravery in other children with leukemia.

Do the Right Thing is a community-wide initiative embraced by the city, the schools and the police department. The program emphasizes six character traits that rotate throughout the year: Responsibility, Respect, Kindness, Self-discipline, Integrity and Courage.
