Spring forward with Concord Parks and Rec activities and summer jobs

Time to change the clocks again. Daylight Savings Time returns March 8. It’s also time to start thinking about all the fun spring and summer activities coming up from the City of Concord’s Parks and Recreation department.

The Summer Camp Expo & Job Fair is almost here

Jump start your summer planning and meet camp instructors at the Concord Parks & Recreation Department’s Summer Camp Expo and Job Fair. This free event will provide guidance in selecting the perfect stimulating half day camp including sewing, ballet, movie making, cooking, flag football, and water polo.

Full day camps, Backyard Explorers (elementary students) and East Bay Explorers (middle school), provide themed weekly camps with field trips and swimming. Preschoolers enjoy a 2-week program at Centre Concord and Baldwin Park locations.

Enjoy a 10% registration discount (HappyCamper2020) on many camps when you register on March 7 only, between the hours of 9am-11pm.

Summer Job Fair

Seeking a challenging and fun summer job? The City has many seasonal jobs as camp counselors in local day camps, as lifeguards and swim instructors at Concord Community Pool, as well as positions at Camp Concord as a cook and program counselors.

New Nature Classes

Concord Parks and Recreation partners with Lindsay Wildlife Experience for fantastic new nature based programs. Taught by naturalists from Lindsay Wildlife Experience, students will explore nature in their own backyard at Lime Ridge Open Space. Classes begin soon with limited space so register now.

Solar Power for a Green Future
Ages 10-14
At the top of the Lime Ridge Open Space, we’ll learn the power of solar energy by baking cookies in a homemade oven and by making model cars powered by the sun. Sunday, March 29, 3-5 pm. Lime Ridge Open Space (meet at Treat Blvd entrance) Click here to register.

Tiny Tuesday Hikes
Ages 4-5 + Caregiver
Come trek with us on a short walk designed specifically for the little ones. We’ll learn about the plants and animals of Lime Ridge and engage in fun activities along the way. Caregiver attendance required, only 1 caregiver per child. Registration required for each hike date listed. March 24, April 21 and May 26, 11am-12pm. Preschool Registration Opens March 17 for 2020-21 school year

The City of Concord Parks and Recreation Department’s Preschool Program has been serving the community for over 30 years with classes encouraging children to play, learn and grow in an age-appropriate setting.

Children ages 2-4 can attend two or three day/week classes at one of the City’s two locations, Baldwin Park or Centre Concord. A 5-day/week class is available at Centre Concord for 4 year olds.

Through games, crafts, songs and activities, children develop social skills, friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Teachers are trained in early childhood development and dedicated to helping children develop language and social skills in a safe and positive environment.

Meet Pickleball Instructor, Marcia Neishi

Marcia Neishi is a certified Pickleball instructor through IPTPA (International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association) and has been the head instructor for the Willow Pass Park courts for over 3 years. Her love for the game, dedication to teaching, and creative and fun teaching style makes learning fun and is easily observed by the popularity of her classes, clinics and drill groups. Currently she is sponsored by Paddletek and is rated a 4.5 tournament level player. To learn more about classes click here.

Brazil Quarry Park

Spring arrives March 19 and what better way to celebrate than to visit one of your local Concord parks.

Brazil Quarry Park is located on the east side of town (Kent Way) and boasts a open turf play area near the playground. An attractive feature of the park is a butterfly garden that was designed and built by students in an environmental education partnership between the Lindsay Wildlife Experience, the Mount Diablo Unified School District and the City of Concord. A walking track and running creek complete the amenities at this park. Make plans to visit the park soon if you’ve never been.

Family Camp at Camp Concord

Kick off summer with an incredible experience for the entire family. As family campers, your family will have the opportunity to leave hectic schedules and technology behind and enjoy the beauty of nature!

Online Classes

Make today the day to learn something new. The City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department partners with Ed2Go to offer self- paced tutorials or instructor-led courses—for the busy parent who needs to sneak in study time as they can, for those who desire to learn an additional skill or expand knowledge in a subject that’s always fascinated you.

The six-week sessions begin monthly and are offered in a variety of subjects, including, but not limited to, Accounting, Computer Applications, Design and Composition, Language Arts, Personal Development and Writing and Publishing.
