CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Mar. 22, 2025) — The Carondelet girls basketball team made four clinch free throws to win their second CIF basketball title, marking their 30th win of the season. The victory comes after coach Kelly Sopak was named one of the 100 Most Impactful People in Women’s College Basketball. (Read the complete story.)

Meanwhile, eight local athletes earned winter sports Players of the Year titles. Plus, a Pioneer Athlete Spotlight on Eric Van Boekhout of Concord High.

Breaking the ice: The Concord Police Department’s monthly Coffee with a Cop program allows residents to build connections in a friendly environment. “Officers enjoy meeting the citizens of Concord and being able to devote the time to hearing their concerns and answering any questions they might have,” said Sgt. Creating a community gathering place: In light of the 30th anniversary of the Clayton Library, the City Council honored Joyce Atkinson, Jeanne Boyd (posthumously) and Diana Bauer. According to Mayor Kim Trupiano, the three women rallied the troops to make the library a reality. (Read the complete story.)
