So This Happened... Week of Jan. 10 through 16, 2022CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Jan. 16, 2021) — Contra Costa County will host a virtual celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 18, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. With the theme “One People, One Nation, One Dream,” the event will include guest speakers, presentation of the Humanitarian of the Year awards, and dance and spoken word performances.

Meanwhile, the Contra Costa Board of Supervisors installed Karen Mitchoff as chair and Federal Glover as vice chair. “In my final year as an elected official for Contra Costa County, I am excited about what lies ahead and ready to work together to keep improving the quality of life in our county,” said Mitchoff.

She was features editor at the Contra Costa Times in Walnut Creek before becoming managing editor of the Contra Costa Sun in Lafayette in 1995. She retired from newsrooms in 2001, but an ad for the Clayton Pioneer drew her back in. The family moved to Lake Wildwood in the Gold Country a few years ago - but working at the Pioneer keeps her in touch with her old neighborhoods in Concord and Clayton.
