CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Jan. 5, 2025) — The Concord City Council and Planning Commission will hold a joint meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 7 to discuss the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) program. Staff will provide an update and review sites being considered for changes in allowable land uses to enable the development of residential housing at greater densities than what is currently allowed.

To accommodate a larger audience, the meeting will take place at Centre Concord. It will also stream on Concord TV, through Zoom and on the city website.

Oak Park overpass repair on tap: JD Partners Concrete will perform concrete work on the Oak Park Boulevard/680 overpass Jan. 7-10. Pleasant Hill drivers can expect traffic delays and temporary lane closures in the area.

There’s copper in them thar hills? In April 1863, about 15 companies and 500 people were involved in Clayton’s copper boom. As the price of copper kept rising, town founder Joel Clayton was building a smelting furnace. However, the ore was soon judged “worthless” and the mines abandoned.
