CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (Dec. 29, 2024) —This year was marked by several big local celebrations, including Clayton’s 60th anniversary of incorporation, Concord’s 50th year of its Sister City relationship with Kitakami, Japan, and Diablo Valley College’s 75th birthday. But it was also marred by several tragedies, including two stabbings, a fatal plane crash and two fires. Arrests in Pleasant Hill shooting: Police have arrested two people in a shooting that injured a man and a child on Dec. 23 in the area of Contra Costa Boulevard and Vivian Drive. Police are calling the incident a child custody issue.

Countywide goals achieved: County Supervisor Ken Carlson outlined his three key accomplishments for 2024. “This year, the county had many critical projects and initiatives come to fruition. For me, 2024 was about making Contra Costa a more welcoming community, improving access to essential services and developing a sustainable future,” he wrote.
