Set aside time on Sept. 4 to make some art
Residents can join Concord artist Lisa Fulmer for an online class in feather painting during Art Break Day on Sept. 4.

CONCORD, CA—For the annual Art Break Day, people usually set up art sites in cities around the world and everyone is invited to take a break to make some art. But for this year’s 10th anniversary, the party is going online.

Tens of thousands of people in cities across the world have participated in the event, hosted by Art is Moving on the first Friday in September.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the Concord Art Association (CAA) and Concord Parks & Rec Department were making joint plans for a big public event. Instead, CAA is offering a free, virtual art break on the Made in Concord Facebook page at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4.

People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate. Grab some watercolors, permanent markers and a sheet of watercolor paper to create along with local artist Lisa Fulmer, who will lead participants through an easy process to paint a lovely feather.

The power of art in a community

In addition, Fulmer will take part in a national Art Break panel of arts organizers at 4 p.m. Sept. 4. via Zoom. The group will discuss the power of art in a community, especially during trying times.

“As an arts advocate here in Concord, I’m excited to be part of a larger conversation with the Art is Moving organization,” Fulmer says. “Through my work with CAA, I’ve experienced firsthand how art can build relationships, help us find deeper meaning in everyday life, discover our hidden talents and provide a means to heal in hard times.”

Look for a post on the Made in Concord Facebook page soon for details on how to watch the panel presentation. For more information, contact Fulmer at lisa@madeinconcord.com or 925-301-6198.
