PLEASANT HILL, CA (August 7, 2024) — On Tuesday, the Pleasant Hill community braved the 97 degree temperatures for the city’s annual National Night Out celebration. Just as they did in small towns and cities all over the country, neighbors shared the evening with strangers and friends and got a chance to meet local officials, community leaders as well as firefighters, police officers and paramedics.

Rather than meet these first responders in times of crisis, folks got a chance to share a snow cone or a burger with the men and women who keep our cities running and who look after us when bad things happen.

This annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The event aims to make neighborhoods safer and more caring places to live.

The Pleasant Hill event featured a BBQ, giveaways, and demonstrations. Visitors could ride a special bike that powered a blender when pedaled to help mix some ice cold lemonade. Kids enjoyed a bounce house, and face painting. The local Lion’s Club cooked up burgers and hot dogs.

Members of the Pleasant Hill Police Department, local fire department, American Medical Response (AMR), and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will be available to answer questions and socialize with community members.

Local police officers offered an opportunity to tour a police car and sit on police motorbikes for photos. Firefighters and paramedics demonstrated their life-saving equipment for both kids and adults.
