Open spaces in Concord closed again due to high fire danger

Concord to close open space areas due to extreme fire dangerCONCORD, CA—The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning beginning Wednesday morning, Oct. 14. Temperatures will be high and wind gusts are expected to pick up significantly, resulting in extreme fire danger.  The warning lasts through Friday around noon.

Because of the warning, the City of Concord will close its open space areas again. Developed walking trails, including Lime Ridge Open Space and portions of Newhall Park will close. Lime Ridge parking lots at Treat Boulevard and Montecito Drive will also close.

The closures will take place beginning this morning, Oct. 14, and the City expects to reopen them on Friday afternoon, Oct. 16.

City staff has consulted with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and determined that closing the open space is in the best interest of public safety and preservation of the natural environment.

PG&E has also warned of a possible Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event for much of the Bay Area. However, the most recent update does NOT show Concord as affected by this. For updates, please visit: https://pgealerts.alerts.pge.com/updates/
